LAKE CENTER CHRISTIAN SCHOOL STUDENTS COMPETE Ohio Data Visualization Competition and Won 1st Place in the State!

Statistics Poster 1st in State

Hartville, Ohio   June 1, 2021:

Two students from the Lake Center Christian School won 1st place in the 10th-12th Grade category of the State of Ohio Data Visualization Competition at the end of May.  Alexandra Humberson and Catherine Katigbak, both graduating seniors, were the winners for this Statistic Poster Competition.

The students of Mrs. Kelly Stirewalt’s Statistics class had about 10 weeks to create this project for the competition entry.  They began the process by selecting a topic and creating/choosing a research question.  Then they developed a survey that had quantitative and qualitative components.  They sent out the survey via our learning management system and then analyzed and created four graphs with 3 different types of charting.  They used the GAISE format (GAISE Model of statistical problem solving. It consists of four steps: Formulating Questions; Collecting Data; Analyzing Data; and Interpreting Results.)

The poster won first place in the State of Ohio Data Visualization Competition was based off “Coffee House Preference” (see attached). In the past four years, Lake Center Christian School students have placed all four years, but this is the first time that the students have won first place.

The poster will now be entered into the National Competition to be judged and awarded sometime this summer. Congratulations to Allie and Cate on your achievement!
