Our Leadership Team
The leadership of a Christian school shapes the curriculum, the guidance, and ultimately the minds and characters of the students. The Lake Center Christian School leadership team works tirelessly to provide all students with a foundation in academic excellence as well as faith.

Favorite Bible Verse: Philippians 4:8 –
“Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is
pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is
anything worthy of praise, think about these things.”
Why do I love Lake Center: “I am beyond excited to start my journey here at Lake Center! I am extremely grateful
for this opportunity to serve The Lord, and for the blessing to have our family here as
students and faculty and see them on campus. My wife Susan and I are huge
proponents of Christian education and we both feel a strong calling from The Lord to
serve him with our giftings here at LCCS. We are thankful for the Christian care and
love we feel from the community!”

Favorite thing about LCCS: I love the faculty and staff that I have to opportunity to work alongside! They are amazing! They pray for our students daily.
Favorite Scripture: Colossians 3:23
I love the community and family atmosphere at Lake Center! Several years ago, God started directing my steps toward leadership in Christian Schools – following His prompting is always the right response. My heartfelt prayer for our students is that they come to acknowledge Jesus’ authority and divine call as their Lord and Savior. Additionally, as I live out my faith in front of my students and I have conversations with students, my prayer is that they will glean wisdom on navigating their Christian journey and deepening their relationship with Jesus.

I am thrilled to join the Lake Center team as Head of School. While I was excited about this opportunity after learning about the school’s mission and rich history which displays generations of God’s faithfulness, I was even more excited when I visited the school and was able to see first hand the love and dedication of the faculty, staff, and school community. It brings me great joy to see Lake Center’s unwavering commitment to Christ-centered education. It is evident that God is doing great things in and through this school, and I’m excited to see what He will continue to do.

Favorite thing about LCCS: Interacting with the quality of students in my class and their desire to learn ASL.
Favorite Scripture: Colossians 2:7
Throughout my life, God has placed me in many different situations that have helped prepare me for the position of American Sign Language teacher. My training began early as I was born into a deaf family. Growing up in this way has made me especially knowledgeable and sensitive to the deaf community. My upbringing in a deaf family, in addition to a strong calling by the Lord, led me to pursue a degree in special education. I was able to work at the Michigan School for the Deaf and further develop ASL skills that would go on to benefit the students here at LCCS.
My prayer is that our ASL students use their love for God and ASL, to share the gospel to the 98% of the deaf population that hasn’t heard the gospel, and win them to God’s kingdom.

Favorite thing about LCCS: I enjoy the opportunities I have to work with students, parents, and colleagues to grow in our love for the Lord while working toward academic excellence and meaningful learning experiences.
Favorite Scripture: Ephesians 3:16-19
The Lord called me to pray for a job at LCCS 2 years before a job opening for my field became available. As soon as the job was posted, two women from my church contacted me, knowing my heart’s desire was to work here someday.
My prayer for my students is that they would encounter Jesus and become fully devoted followers of Him.

Pastor Oakes brings a rich background in ministry and discipleship to Lake Center Christian School. He currently serves as the Family and Discipleship Pastor at The Summit Church, where he leads with a heart for worship, family-centered ministry, and spiritual formation. He and his wife, Makala—high school sweethearts—live in Uniontown and are raising five children: Isaiah (11), Elijah (9), Arabella (5), Judah (4), and Asher (5 months). With a deep commitment to making disciples both at home and in the broader community, Pastor Oakes has had the joy of working with children of all ages—from birth through 12th grade—as well as adults, teaching how all of Scripture points to Jesus. It is an added joy for their family to join the Lake Center community as parents of LCCS students, too.
Before his time at Summit Church, Pastor Oakes interned as Worship Leader at Rivertree Canal Fulton, and served as both worship leader and youth director at Amherst Community Church. He is also a gifted communicator, having written Bible studies on the parables of Jesus and the life of David, and is currently working on a book. Additionally, he produces a podcast and regularly contributes to blogs that promote spiritual growth and equip families to follow Christ together. Pastor Oakes finds joy in reading, listening to podcasts, and reflecting in writing on what God is teaching him through His Word.
As Spiritual Life Director, Pastor Oakes will guide the overall direction of discipleship at Lake Center, helping students grow in attitudes, skills, and biblical understanding that form the foundation of a Christ-centered life. His role will include:
-
Providing spiritual support and mentoring for students
-
Offering relational and spiritual counseling for students and parents
-
Leading chapels, mission trips, service opportunities, and discipleship groups
-
Developing a comprehensive spiritual life curriculum
-
Supporting the Bible faculty in delivering strong biblical instruction
-
Coordinating faculty devotions and spiritual emphasis events
-
Building relationships with local churches and Christian leaders
By leading students in prayer, equipping families to grow in faith, and organizing meaningful service opportunities, Pastor Oakes will play a vital role in continuing to nurture the Christ-centered environment at LCCS.
“On average, a parent has 936 weeks with their children before they graduate high school. I have an app on my phone that literally counts down the weeks until my kids graduate. It serves as a daily reminder that each moment matters. As parents, we are called to show our children what it looks like to be imperfect people who limp along daily by the power and grace of our perfect Savior. The purpose of a partnership between home, church, and school is to work together over those 936 weeks to help our students find their way to the same nail-pierced hands that we hold—one moment at a time. When I look back over my own journey, there was no one particular lesson, class, or Bible study that changed my life—it was the people who invested in me. I am who I am today because of a few imperfect people who cared about me and showed me what it looks like to walk, and sometimes crawl, along with Jesus. I am excited to have the opportunity to be that kind of influence for someone else: to walk alongside students, pointing them to Christ, who is both my companion and my destination on this journey.”

Favorite thing about LCCS: I love that I am able to share Truth with every student/parent/co-worker with whom I come into contact.
Favorite Scripture: Lamentations 3:21-23
Teaching and leading at LCCS allows me to use the gifts that God has given me in a way that I know is impacting His Kingdom.
My prayer for the students of LCCS is that they would encounter and come to know Jesus in a very real way while they are here. That they would leave not just knowing about Jesus from what they learn in their classrooms, but that they would KNOW Jesus and be able to share Him with everyone they meet outside of these walls.

Favorite thing about LCCS: I love working with a great team of educators who are committed to both serving Christ and to leading students in learning.
Favorite Scripture: Proverbs 3:5-6
While I knew I wanted to be a teacher at an early age, I did not know that God would lead me into Christian Education or to a position as an administrator. After serving at LCCS in 6th grade for 11 years I moved into a part time position for two years and then began my current role in the 2012-2013 school year.
My prayer for all students comes from the end of Ephesians chapter 3, that each one would have Christ in their heart, be rooted and established in love, and have power, to grasp how wide, long, high, and deep is His love.
I pray each graduate leaves Lake Center ready for their future with the motivation and skills to serve in whatever way the Lord calls them.
