Community Invited to Kaufman Center Open House and Dedication
Celebrating Faith, Learning, and Generations of Service
By Emiy Chesnic
HARTVILLE, OH – Sunlight streams through the new windows and solar tubes of the Kaufman Center at Lake Center Christian School, illuminating bright, open spaces designed for learning and collaboration. As students walk through the building, they follow in the footsteps of generations who built, served, prayed, and fellowshipped within these walls. On Thursday, October 16, 2025, from 5:30 to 6:30 PM, the community is invited to experience this transformation firsthand at a special open house and dedication.
A Space Built for Faith and Growth
For nearly 40 years, the Kaufman Center has been the heart of campus life, where faith and community come together. In 1987, Howard R. Miller Sr. and Sarah Miller led volunteers to create a building that would support Christian education. Over the years, it has hosted fish frys, auctions, weddings, concerts, graduations, plays, and countless school events, serving as a gym, student lounge, and hub for fellowship.
Originally envisioned as a multipurpose building for ministry and connection, the Kaufman Center has now been transformed through a $1.2 million renovation funded by private donations, featuring modern classrooms, collaborative spaces, and offices designed to inspire learning, creativity, and spiritual growth.
Anchored in Faith
Before construction began on the building in 2025, students wrote Scripture verses on the building’s beams, grounding the renovation in God’s Word. Today, the spaces reflect Lake Center’s mission: to nurture spiritual growth, academic excellence, and the development of God-given talents. Students can explore, create, and grow in faith while honoring the generations of volunteers and families who made the center possible.
Honoring Howard and Sarah Miller
A highlight of the open house will be the dedication of the Howard and Sarah Miller Commons, honoring the couple whose vision and leadership brought the Kaufman Center to life. Howard guided construction and rallied volunteers, while Sarah supported the effort with hospitality and care, shaping a space of learning, fellowship, and ministry whose legacy continues today.
Celebrating a Rich History
Open house guests can also view the Kaufman Center Timeline Wall, chronicling the building’s journey from its 1987 groundbreaking through decades of milestones and its recent renovations. The display reflects a history of prayer, sacrifice, and service that has shaped Lake Center.
An Invitation to the Community
“The Kaufman Center has always been more than a building—it’s a place where faith, learning, and community come together,” said Dr. Tim McAboy, Head of School. “This renovation honors our history while preparing students for the future.”
The community is invited to celebrate the Kaufman Center and reflect on its impact across generations of students. Don’t miss the return of Lake Center’s beloved Fish Fry November 22, 2025, a cherished tradition of fellowship, food, and fun. More details will be shared soon.
