College Credit Plus Overview

Ohio’s College Credit Plus can help you earn college and high school credits at the same time by taking college courses from community colleges or universities. The purpose of this program is to promote rigorous academic pursuits and to provide a wide variety of options to college-ready students. Taking a college course from a public college or university is free. That means no cost for tuition, books or fees. If you choose to attend a private college or university, you may have limited costs.

This program is available to students who will be in grades 7-12 next year and meet the application requirements of a college or university. (GPA, ACT, etc.)

Under the College Credit Plus (CCP) program students are able to fulfill their high school graduation requirements and earn college credit at the same time. Tuition for the college courses may be covered through state funding and can give students the advantage of starting the transition to college early.  Students can take courses on a college campus or at Lake Center.

There are several courses offered at Lake Center that are part of the CCP program.  In order to take advantage of earning college credit, students will need to apply to the sponsoring university during late winter before the next school year. Students and parents are responsible for knowing and keeping the deadlines of prospective CCP colleges and the State of Ohio in order to qualify for participation. An updated timeline is posted on the Ohio Department of Education website usually late fall. Please check this website OFTEN!! (see link below)

To learn more about this program, please visit the Ohio Department of Education website below. Be sure to follow links for NON-PUBLIC students as the process is different for private and homeschooled students.

Steps to participate
in a CCP Class:

  1. Parents attend an important informational CCP meeting at Lake Center. It is posted on the Lake Center Calendar. This is where you will receive an information packet on participating in the College Credit Plus program whether at Lake Center, at a local campus or online. Click here to view the video of this meeting if you did not attend. Pick up the information packet from the guidance office once you’ve viewed the video.
  2. The ACT test must be taken to qualify for CCP classes. Students should take the December ACT test as the latest option in order to have scores available in time to apply for CCP. Register at actstudent.org
  3. Complete the State of Ohio’s required “Letter of Intent to Participate for Nonpublic Students” and mail or email this completed form DIRECTLY to the Ohio State Board of Education at the address listed on the bottom of the form by APRIL 1http://education.ohio.gov/getattachment/Topics/Quality-School-Choice/Private-Schools/College-Credit-Plus-for-Nonpublic-School-Families/Nonpublic-Intent-to-Participate-CCP-form.pdf.aspx?lang=en-US
  4. Complete the yellow LCCS College Credit Plus Participation Notification form which notifies Lake Center that you intend to participate in CCP classes for the upcoming school year. This is attached to the CCP Handout you received at the CCP meeting. Bring this to the Guidance Office by March 1.
  5. Apply to each college that you will be taking a class with. Malone, Bluffton and Cedarville are schools hosting classes specifically at Lake Center. If you attend a local college or take an online class you will also apply to that specific college.
  6. Complete and bring the yellow CCP Transcript Request Form to the Guidance Office so that academic records can be mailed to all colleges with whom your child will be taking CCP classes. This form is on the reverse side of the LCCS College Credit Plus Participation Notification form which was attached to the CCP packet you received at the CCP meeting. Bring this to the Guidance Office by March 1.
  7. Create a SAFE account for your family. This is where you will request the number of credit hours needed for the CCP classes that will be taken and upload the college acceptance letter(s). Completion deadline is April 12.

The Guidance Office will be happy to help if you have any questions.
    Thank you!
