Service Puts Faith in Action

Service opportunities at Lake Center Christian provide our students with ways to put faith in action. Being involved in work that allows us to be the hands and feet of Christ is an important aspect of our Christian education.

Every school year provides a wide variety of service project offerings. As a Christian school, we recognize the importance of service opportunities to help our students grow in their faith. These activities also help them gain confidence in their ability to make a difference in the world.

Here’s a list of some annual service activities our students participate in throughout the year:

Canned Food Drive

We join Stark County’s “Hunger: The Bus Stops Here” campaign by holding a school-wide canned food drive. We deliver the food in a school bus to the Akron Canton Regional Food Bank.

Glover Elementary Project

We partner with Glover Elementary in Akron by providing weekly food donations for families in need. Our Kindergarten families also provide polos, underwear, and socks for Glover Elementary students at Christmas.

Haven of Rest

Groups of students visit the downtown Akron mission home monthly and provide clothing, a craft, Bible story, worship, and a skit for the ladies and children staying there.

GentleBrook Homestead

The Elementary Leadership Team puts together a chapel for the residents of GentleBrook Homestead, a Hartville retirement and assisted living facility. Elementary students are involved with providing worship, skits, a message, and fellowship.

Love Our Community

Our elementary families partner with Love Our Community, a non-profit organization in Stark County, by providing school supplies, toiletries, and special items throughout the year. We also make blankets to provide to the homeless as part of their Christmas event. Our junior high students help with the clothes closet at Love Our Community. There are additional opportunities for junior high school students to help throughout the year.

Meeting God in Missions

Our junior class travels to the Dominican Republic each year to spend a week serving the communities there. Our students donate and distribute food, personal hygiene supplies, clothing, toys, sports equipment, and more to the villages.

Mini-Term Service Opportunities

Each mini-term incorporates a service component and off-campus experiences. Students serve underprivileged families in Appalachia, and work at area rescue shelters, local food banks, and nursing homes. Students also serve at Stark Parks, and the Ronald McDonald House, as well as volunteer for school events.

Operation Shoebox

Elementary families and students participate in Operation Shoebox during October/early November, by preparing shoeboxes of needed items and gifts to be shipped overseas.

Tiger and Cubs

Elementary students are paired with secondary students who serve as mentors. High school students apply for the position of mentorship through the Guidance Office. Mentors meet weekly with their elementary student to share lunch, participate in crafts or activities, play games, and build relationships.

Value Reading

The Value Reading Program centers around a love of reading. Community members and secondary students sign up to read with students in K – 2nd grade once a week. The goal is to foster relationships and strengthen reading skills.

World Vision Sponsorships

We partner with World Vision to provide supplies for nine students in India. Once a month in our chapels, we collect an offering, and these fund go toward these students and their families.

World Vision Matthew 25 Challenge

Our 1st – 3rd grade students spend a week learning what it’s like to be a child living in a third-world country through different experiences – such as eating rice and beans one day, sleeping on the floor or wearing the same clothes as the day before.

World Vision 6K Run

We participate in a 6K race to raise funds for clean drinking water. The money raised creates wells and clean drinking water overseas. The 5th grade classes host this event for students in grades 4 – 6.
