Lake Center Christian School’s visual arts program offers the following options for the artistically minded students. The following courses are offered at the secondary level: Art Fundamentals 1, Art Fundamentals 2, Advanced Art, Music Composition and Theory, and Independent Study.
Fundamentals of Art
Students will explore basic concepts of drawing, painting and three-dimensional design. Emphasis will be placed on establishing a solid foundation in drawing using different techniques and media. Perspective systems, portraiture, still life, and mechanical drawing are incorporated in the course.
Fundamentals of Art 2
Building on Fundamentals of Art, Fundamentals of Art 2 will continue drawing, color theory, painting and three–dimensional design. Principles and elements of design will be formally taught. Students will explore art as a means of visual communication.
Advanced Art
Further exploration of two and three-dimensional art is incorporated in this course. Students will have opportunities to develop their work as a means of personal expression. Rotating curriculum allows for different projects every semester.
Digital Photography
In this course, the student (the amateur photographer) will learn about the digital camera, digital photography, tips for taking better photos and information for editing photos with Photoshop Elements. Digital Photography 1 is offered through our Co-Curricular Activities Program.
Music Composition and Theory
This course is a computer-based introduction to reading and notating music. Concepts taught include note reading, composing melodies, harmonies, rhythm, style, form, and techniques of song writing. The computerized curriculum permits students to electronically upload, transfer, save and print music compositions.
Independent Study
Students desiring to study art forms and concepts beyond what is presently offered in the Find Arts curriculum may apply for an independent study. All arrangements including course work must be secured through a supervising teacher and approved by the administration. An additional fee will be assessed for participation.
At the junior high through elementary levels, Lake Center Christian School provides required art appreciation course work.
