Performing Arts

Lake Center Christian School’s performing arts program offer a variety of options for the artistically and musically minded students. The following courses are offered at the secondary level: General Choir, Concert Band, High School Orchestra, Art Fundamentals 1, Art Fundamentals 2, Advanced Art, Acting, Music Composition and Theory, and Independent Study.

 

General Choir

Mixed chorus is for high school students who desire a good choral experience.  Special emphasis is given to ear training and sight-reading. A variety of styles of choral music will be rehearsed and performed. Performances are mandatory.  Choir may be taken for one or two semesters. Students may enroll in choir first semester without enrolling in choir second semester.  Second semester includes choir festival.  Students desiring to be in choir second semester are required to have been enrolled in choir first semester. Participation fees are assessed for the music festival, concert uniform, and course work.

 

At the high school level, choir practices are held five times each week in order to prepare for school concerts, chapel services, Christmas caroling, at least three spring church services, and a five-day tour to the MSEC Choir Festival. Students will participate in the OMEA choir competition and be able to audition for a select choir group of twelve.

 

Concert Band

Concert Band is designed for students in grades nine through twelve who desire to improve their skills as instrumentalists. Various styles of instrumental music will be rehearsed and performed. A one-year commitment is required and performances are mandatory. No audition is required. An additional fee is assessed for participation.  Junior High Band or the recommendation of an instructor is a prerequisite.

 

Band    

Students in junior and senior high practice and perform separately during the day. Band students receive a credit for participation in class and performances.

 

Jazz Band

Students enrolled in band can additionally elect to perform with the school’s Jazz Band – a Co-Curricular Activity.

 

Pep Band

Students enrolled in band also have the opportunity to perform with the Pep Band – a Co-Curricular Activity – at home varsity basketball games during pre-game and halftime.

 

High School Orchestra    

High School Orchestra is an advanced ensemble of students in grades nine through twelve with at least one year of experience (lessons are required for beginners) and meets each school day during second period. Students must have acquired an instrument. Homeschoolers can also participate for performing arts credit.

 

Drama

Junior high and senior high students can participate in fall and spring plays and musicals which are part of our Co-Curricular Activities Program.

 

 

At the junior high level, Lake Center Christian School offerings the following performing arts programs for the artistically and musically minded students: Junior High Choir, Junior High Orchestra, and Band.

 

Junior High Choir    

Junior high students are required to participate in one of the performance groups (band, choir, or orchestra), and can participate in more than one of the performance groups if they wish. In High school, students are required to take two credits of visual and/or performing arts (art, music or drama), but many take more if desired

 

Junior High Orchestra    

Junior High Orchestra is designed for students in grades seven and eight with at least one year of experience (lessons are required for beginners). Students must have acquired an instrument. A variety of musical styles will be studied and performed.

 

Band     one credit

Students in junior and senior high practice and perform separately during the day. Band students receive a credit for participation in class and performances.

 

Jazz Band

Students enrolled in band can additionally elect to perform with the school’s Jazz Band – a Co-Curricular Activity.

In the middle and elementary school grades, the following options outline our performing arts options as offered through our Co-Curricular Activities Program: Choir, TRIBE, Band, Fifth/Sixth Grade Intermediate Strings, Fifth/Sixth Grade Beginning Strings, Junior Strings, and Starting Strings.

 

Choir

Choir is available to students in grades five and six. Choir practices are held twice each week during a study hall period in order to prepare for school concerts, chapel services, and other performances.

 

 TRIBE

Students in elementary grades one through four can participate in an optional choir that meets after school once a week. The structure may vary from year to year based of participation.

 

Band

Students in grades five and six have an opportunity to participate in band, where they will learn how to play an instrument through small group instruction.

 

Fifth/Sixth Grade Intermediate Strings

Intermediate Strings is designed for students in grades five and six who are at a more advanced elementary level and have at least one year of experience. Homeschoolers are welcomed to join.

 

Fifth/Sixth Grade Beginning Strings

Beginning Strings is available to students in grades five and six who have no prior experience.

 

Junior Strings

Junior Strings is designed for students in grades one through four with at least one year of experience.

 

Starting Strings

Starting Strings is designed for students in grades one through four with no prior experience. Students must have an instrument.

 

General Music

Every grade level is provided with regular music classes under the direction of the music department. This music instruction includes knowledge of the fundamentals of music, composers, vocal music, and music appreciation.

  

Private Music Lessons

Private lessons are available before, during or after the school day at LCCS. Students may take piano, organ, voice, violin, viola, cello bass and guitar lessons. Most band instrument lessons are also available. Private lesson fees are not included in the regular tuition.
