Marine Biology Star FishMarine Biology Trip to Florida Keys is June 18 - 22, 2018 lead by Instructor Mr. Sean Miller.

Every year, as we plow through the long, cold stretches of another Ohio winter, a small part of my heart remains warm as I happily dream about sunnier days ahead spent basking in the heat of the Florida Keys. I am privileged to lead a group of high school students down to the Keys each June for one week as we explore the beauty of God’s creation in the marine world of the ocean. Many students who have ventured down on this trip have come back and described the Florida Keys as an oasis or a place for escaping the busyness of life  It is truly a safe haven, a unique slice of Earth teeming with splendor.

During this trip, we travel to various ecosystems and habitats of the ocean, exploring different creatures and observing how they live together. Some of our time will also be spent doing lab work learning to identify different organisms and how they are put together. However, this trip is not only about what goes on underwater; we also spend a lot of time bonding as a group and focusing on each other. Every year it is a pleasure to watch the group grow together as everyone faces challenges and various fears. For some those fears may be getting in the water or traveling, and for others maybe that means learning to swim with sharks and other frightening creatures or swimming in the dark during our night dive. Regardless, everyone will face fears at some point during the trip, and it is in the overcoming of these fears that really unites the group together.

As we prepare to venture down to the Keys again this June, there are several prayer requests that come to mind that I ask you to join us. First, please pray for unity with this group, that they will be excited to grow and learn together and that lasting friendships will form. Please pray for safety as we travel, as we swim and explore the ocean together, and also for good weather during the week. Lastly, pray that God will reveal himself to each person at some point through the week. Every year, we share stories about how God has shown himself whether that is through an experience in the water or through times spent with people, and it is always a joy to watch our students grow closer in relationship to Him during our time together in the vast beauty of the Florida Keys.
